Chapter 1: : Innocence Taken Away
Under the dark night sky, amidst the loud thunder, a light rain fell outside the window of Renhe Hospital.
Looking at the hefty payment bill in her hand, Gu Yin remained silent for a moment before finally picking up her phone. "Aunt, I agree to the substitute marriage you mentioned."
"Aunt knew you would agree, so I've already prepared your room early in the morning. Come over tomorrow and stay with us. Aunt will prepare some dowry for you." On the other end of the phone, Cheng Meiling's voice was filled with joy, even her tone sounded pleased.
Just the thought of it, Gu Yin could imagine how smug Cheng Meiling's face must be right now, which made her sick to her stomach.
Ever since her parents died in a car accident, Gu Yin had been taken in by her grandmother in the countryside.
For fifteen years, they relied on each other for survival. If it weren't for her grandmother's urgent need for a heart transplant, she would never have come to this sorrowful city.
Although she had learned traditional Chinese medicine from a master since she was young, she couldn't perform a heart transplant.
Now that her grandmother's medical expenses were finally settled, Gu Yin breathed a sigh of relief.
Just as she put away her phone, her grandmother walked out of the hospital room. "Nannan, who were you talking to on the phone?"
"Um, a friend." Gu Yin didn't dare to say it was Cheng Meiling, let alone reveal anything about her deal with Cheng Meiling.
The old woman was perceptive and knew that her granddaughter was worried about her medical expenses. She grabbed Gu Yin's hand, her eyes filled with apology. "Nannan, Grandma is getting old. Even if I have the surgery, I won't have many good years left. Let's not do it."
"Grandma, don't talk nonsense. The surgery fees have already been paid. It's windy outside, let me help you back in."
After her grandmother fell asleep, Gu Yin quietly left the hospital room.
The hospital was quiet at night, with no one in sight in the dark corridors. Gu Yin wanted to go to the restroom to freshen up.
But after taking a few steps, the door to the storage room next to her suddenly opened.
Before she could react, a fair arm reached out from the door and covered her mouth.
In an instant, she was dragged into the storage room.
"Don't make a sound." The man's breath was right next to her ear...
At the same time, the strong smell of blood filled Gu Yin's nostrils.
Looking down, she saw the blood dripping onto her skirt.
Clearly, this man was injured.
But his hands tightly held her neck, so she couldn't move or make any sound.
After a few minutes...
"He's injured and can't run far." A hurried sound of footsteps came from outside the storage room. It sounded like there were more than ten people.
When the sound gradually faded, the man finally released his grip on her.
Relieved, Gu Yin took a deep breath, but the next moment, the man growled lowly, his face contorting in pain. "Go quickly!"
He knew the drugs in his body were taking effect...
If this girl didn't leave soon, he feared he wouldn't be able to control himself.
Gu Yin originally wanted to leave, but as someone who had learned medicine since childhood, how could she stand by and watch someone die?
"I can help you." If it was just an external injury, she could help bandage the wound.
Upon hearing these words, the man's eyes turned bloodshot, and his uncontrollable desire finally overcame all reason.
He pulled Gu Yin into his arms, then flipped her over and pressed her down.
The rain outside seemed to be falling harder, the sound of rain, thunder, and the girl's screams intertwined, making it hard to distinguish.
The battle inside the room lasted for over an hour before Fu Chengze finally released his last bit of strength.
The effects of the drugs had worn off, and his eyes regained clarity.
It was still dark outside when Gu Yin woke up. Her clothes had been neatly put back on, and if it weren't for the pain between her legs, she would have thought that everything that happened last night was just a dream.
Although the man had disappeared, he left behind a note and a jade pendant. Angrily, she tore the note with the man's contact information into pieces and threw it out the window.
As for the jade pendant!
Judging by its quality and texture, it could be worth a lot of money.
But when she thought of last night, where she couldn't even see the man's face clearly before her innocence was taken away, her eyes welled up with tears once again.
What brought Gu Yin back to her senses was a phone call from Cheng Meiling. Upon learning that her deceased parents had left her some belongings, she wiped away her tears and hurriedly went to the Gu family's house.
Although the Gu family had fallen on hard times, the Gu Mansion was still the same as Gu Yin remembered.
If her parents hadn't died in the accident, the Gu Corporation wouldn't have been taken over by Gu Mingfei and his wife, and she wouldn't have been kicked out of the Gu family when she was nine years old.
Thinking of the past, although filled with regret, Gu Yin knew that she had returned to her former home.
"You must be my cousin from the countryside, right?" The first person to greet Gu Yin was Gu Mingfei and Cheng Meiling's daughter, Gu Meng, who was technically her cousin.
Rather than a warm welcome, her expression was filled with disdain, as if she was mocking Gu Yin. "You really look like a country bumpkin, so rustic."
After throwing out these words, she didn't care about Gu Yin's response and went upstairs, engrossed in the chat on her phone.
"You must be Xiaoyin." Cheng Meiling smiled as she walked out of the kitchen, tugging off her apron and warmly holding Gu Yin's hand. "That was your cousin Mengmeng just now. When you were young, you used to play together. Do you remember?"
Of course, Gu Yin remembered.
No matter what trouble she got into as a child, her cousin would always make her take the blame.
A perfect little white lotus.
But she had her own agenda, so she just smiled and nodded. "Aunt, Mengmeng doesn't want to get married because she has a boyfriend, right?"
Earlier, she accidentally saw Gu Meng's phone, and there were quite a few flirtatious messages, and they weren't from the same guy.
Cheng Meiling's expression changed for a moment, as if she thought of something, but quickly changed the subject. "Mengmeng is just unlucky. She can't enter the Fu family. The Fu family is the most prestigious and wealthy family in Tongcheng. Once you marry into it, all the riches will be yours. Don't forget your Aunt and Uncle then."
Hearing these words made Gu Yin feel nauseous. How could they force her, an outsider, to marry into the Fu family?
So Gu Yin changed the subject. "Aunt, I will remember everything you said. I came here today mainly to find out what my parents left for me."
"I can only give you those things after you marry into the Fu family on behalf of Mengmeng." Cheng Meiling couldn't afford to be careless until she received the dowry money from the Fu family.
But Gu Yin couldn't help but notice her little scheme, no matter how hard Cheng Meiling tried to hide it.
The Gu family had fallen on hard times, and the Gu Corporation was facing bankruptcy. That's why Gu Mingfei thought of the marriage agreement with the Fu family.
But the second young master of the Fu family had been paralyzed due to illness in his early years, and his violent temper had caused the deaths of three fiancées. How could they dare to marry their precious daughter into that family?
On one hand, there was a 5 million dowry that could revive the Gu Corporation, and on the other hand, there was their own biological daughter in the palm of their hands. They couldn't bear to let go of either, which led them to think of Gu Yin, who was in the countryside and urgently needed money for medical treatment.
They even "kindly" offered to bring Gu Yin's grandmother to the more advanced Tongcheng Hospital.
