Chapter 1: The Missing Woman

"I'm not some mannequin. I do love you… I can give it all to you. I can give you my everything…" The woman muttered those words before letting out an agonized but passionate cry. Before she could say anything else, the man forced his lips onto hers once more. After all the action and screaming, they returned to a state of silence…

The skies were still dark when Sarah Walker next woke up. There was a neon red sign that flashed outside the window, creating a rather eerie-looking reflection on the surface of the window. She widened her eyes to look at the man fast asleep beside her. His firm and muscular arm rested on top of her chest.

Sarah felt wide awake then, and she was sober enough to know that the man she had just slept with wasn't her ex-boyfriend, Joseph Scott. This man was much stronger and fiercer than Joseph. Joseph had always been gentle to her… Sarah felt a sharp ache in her chest before she tugged her lips into a smirk. She was scoffing at herself. I probably proved myself to this guy. I probably showed him that I'm not some mannequin and that I'm not unresponsive… But so what? Joseph still broke up with me because I'm a puzzled, unromantic orphan who has a dead mother and a father who doesn't want her. There's nothing I can offer him.

That's why he broke his promise during graduation. He dumped me on that day and proposed to his classmate, Sofia, instead! Sofia Parish of the Parish Family in Astonville!

Sarah's five-year relationship with Joseph seemed like nothing more than a joke after what he did that day. All of her classmates laughed at her as well. As Sarah thought about this incident, she couldn't help but tear up. Sarah was from Astonville as well, but after her parents had a divorce, she followed her mother to Tillbank City, where she stayed with her grandparents.

However, her grandparents had passed away since, and her mother was gone as well. The only thing that kept Sarah in Astonville was her desire to start a family with Joseph. After Joseph dumped her, Sarah felt like a kite with a broken string. How dumb must I have been to pour my heart out to a man who turned out to be so pretentious?!

Sarah wiped her tears off her cheeks before she pushed the man's arm away and got out of bed. She felt around in the dark and got herself dressed in her clothes before packing her things up. She didn't leave a trace of herself in the room. She didn't take a single glance at the man's face—she didn't know who he was, and she didn't want to know.

Right as she turned around, she noticed something reflective on the ground. She bent down to pick up a watch. After checking it out for a while, she decided to put it into her bag before she left the room. Her eyes were dry by the time she stood on the empty street outside—she had run out of tears by then. She pulled her phone out and dialed the number of the first person that came to mind. The person on the other end of the line was the only blood tie she had in the whole world.

"What is it, Sarah?" The person picked up her call in a matter of seconds. Sarah teared up the moment she heard the concern in the other person's voice. "I want to leave Tillbank," she uttered between sobs.

…

The sun showered Tillbank City with warmth the next morning. Adam Parish's head felt heavy when he first woke up. He knitted his brows as he sat up in bed. He was flooded by memories of the night before—someone had drugged him before a drunk and crazy woman charged into his room. He had intended to push her out, but the woman clung onto his waist before she clumsily planted kisses on his cold lips… He lost his mind after that.

Adam widened his eyes before he turned to look at the other side of the bed. It was empty! He threw the sheets aside to find some dried blood on the bed. He froze for a moment before he strode to the washroom and pushed the door open. It was empty inside as well. Adam frowned as he picked his clothes up from the ground. My watch is gone. His pupils shrank as he wondered, Who was that woman? Could she have tricked me into this?

"I want you to find the woman who came into my room last night!" Adam made a call. The other person nearly dropped his phone upon hearing Adam's words. "No one entered your room last night, Mr. Parish! We caught the person who drugged you!"

The woman wasn't the one who arranged this? Adam felt himself calming down for a while, but he soon got annoyed at the situation again. "Are you guys even doing your job? A living human being entered my room and left without your knowledge! I'll give you guys one hour to find that person and bring her to me!"

"What was the woman's name? How did she look like?" the person asked in a shaky voice.

Adam was speechless. He had no idea! All he knew was that she had a really attractive scent that made him lose all control of himself. He felt like he couldn't have enough of her the night before! Blood rushed up to his cheeks as he thought about this. "She stole my watch!" he barked into the phone.

Tillbank City was in chaos that day. Everyone heard the news about a public figure searching for a female thief. She had stolen an extremely expensive watch! However, no one managed to locate the female thief even after a few days. They didn't know her name or what she looked like. In the end, the public figure revealed what his watch looked like and offered a reward of ten million for anyone who could find it.

After that, tons of women brought their watches to Adam. However, all of those were fake items, and Adam ended up throwing them out. The reward was still offered, but no one had the guts to offer their fake watches to Adam after hearing what he did. In the end, the case of the stolen watch remained a mystery to Tillbank City.

…

Six years later, a gorgeous woman stepped out of Astonville's international airport. She was dressed in a white t-shirt and denim jeans. A large pair of sunglasses covered half of her fair face, concealing her bright, innocent eyes. She carried two big luggage bags with her, and a young boy dressed in a matching outfit was sitting on top of one of the bags. The boy looked about five or six years old, and his porcelain-like skin made him look almost like a doll. Anyone who saw him would want to pinch his cheeks.

The young boy had a pair of sunglasses as well, but he had pushed them up on his head to reveal his big eyes, which darted around the place. "Mommy, is this the place that uncle stays at?" The young boy looked up as he spoke in a childish voice.

Sarah nodded. Her heart felt heavy as she looked out at the blue skies in front of the airport. Astonville. I've been wandering for years now, yet I'm back here again!

Chapter 2: Reunion

Sarah brought her son, Wolford Walker, out of the airport before she stood at the exit area and made a phone call. Wolford Walker, nicknamed Wolfie, was a gift Sarah received after that crazy night. Previously, Sarah would call him Wolford. However, Wolford watched some animal documentaries when he was two, and he fell in love with wolves after that. He insisted that Sarah call him 'Wolfie' since then. He said that he wanted to be a wolf who could protect his mother. That was how his nickname came about.

Right then, a black limousine stopped in front of the mother and son. The door of the car was thrown open to reveal a handsome young man. He took a few steps toward Sarah. "You're finally back, Miss Walker." This man was Desmond McComb, Sebastian Walker's assistant. Wolford widened his eyes and took a long look at Desmond before he stuck his bottom lip out. "You're not my uncle," the child protested.

Wolford had never seen Sebastian in person, but he had seen him in video calls, so he could easily recognize him. Desmond bent down and picked Wolford up into his arms. "I'm your uncle's assistant. You can just call me Mr. Desmond. I'll bring you to your uncle now, okay?" Wolford took a glance at his mother, who nodded in response.

After Sarah got into the car, she looked out at the view of the town, and the look on her face gradually darkened. About two weeks ago, her brother, Sebastian, had fallen off a cliff and was only found by Desmond three days later. Although they still managed to save Sebastian's life, Sebastian was still in a coma. Desmond was the one who called and told Sarah about the situation.

At the news, Sarah immediately dropped everything that she had been doing before bringing her son back to Astonville. About one hour later, they safely arrived at Astonville's General Hospital. Sarah held Wolford in her arms as she followed Desmond into an elevator that led them to the ward.

They entered what looked like an exclusive VIP ward to find Sebastian's frail and weak figure on the bed. Sebastian used to be an outgoing and lively man, but he looked as if someone had taken every ounce of his strength from him right then. Tears streamed down Sarah's cheeks the moment she saw him.

In the past, their mother found out that their father had a mistress outside the marriage. Furthermore, it turned out that the mistress had a son and daughter who were about the same age as Sarah and Sebastian. Their mother couldn't handle the truth, so she decided to divorce their father. Sarah chose to follow her mother, while Sebastian chose to stay with the Walker Family. "As long as I stay, then Mom, Sarah, and everyone else is still considered part of the family!" Sebastian insisted.

After that, when Sarah's grandparents were ill and when her mother was ill, Sebastian was the one who found ways to provide financial support to them using the Walker Family's funds. Sebastian also managed to cover Sarah's living expenses, her school fees, and so on! In other words, Sebastian was like the sturdy, reliable rock and the safety net that Sarah had in her life. However, the person she had relied on the most had collapsed.

Sarah's fingers trembled as she reached out for Sebastian's pale face. "I'm back, Sebastian…" she muttered through sobs. "Why don't you open your eyes to look at me? Don't worry, Sebastian. I'll make sure you wake up… I'll make sure the person who did this pays for their sins!" Sebastian has always been the one to look after me. It's my turn to protect him now!

Wolford felt something heavy weighing upon his chest when he saw how hard his mother was crying and how silent and still Sebastian seemed. With his face scrunched into a frown, Wolford reached for Sebastian's hand before speaking in a stern voice. "Hey, Uncle Sebastian, I'm Wolford. I know you're ill. Don't worry. I'll take care of you and Mommy. But that doesn't mean you get to laze around, Uncle Sebastian. You can't make us wait for too long!" Then, the young boy turned to give his mother a firm look. "I'm sure Uncle Sebastian will wake up, Mom!"

Sarah dried her tears as she spoke. "How much longer do we have to wait?" she asked. Wolford shook his head at this. Desmond was puzzled as he watched this interaction. Miss Walker is a doctor herself. Why is she asking her child such a question? What Desmond didn't know was that Wolford had some special powers. Whenever Wolford came in physical contact with someone, he was able to see a glimpse of the other person's future.

When Wolford had touched Sebastian's hand earlier, he saw a flash of a scene where Sebastian was sitting up in bed, and Sarah was happily feeding him some food. That was how Wolford knew that Sebastian would wake up eventually. However, there were limits to Wolford's skills—Wolford could only see a clip or a scene of the future, but he couldn't determine how near or far this future was. Furthermore, Wolford couldn't see his and Sarah's future at all.

Right then, Wolford's words made Sarah feel much calmer. She dried her tears before she turned to Desmond. "You can bring Wolford back to the condominium first. I need to meet the dean for a talk with him," Sarah explained.

"Sure, Miss Walker." Desmond nodded before he led Wolford away. When they were leaving the hospital, they happened to pass by a group of people. Among the group of people was a tall and stern-looking man who had a pale woman in his arms. Beside them was a skinny and fair guy who seemed to be anxiously comforting the pale woman.

Wolford was being carried in Desmond's arms, and Wolford's skin accidentally brushed passed the skinny man's shoulder for a while. A scene flashed across Wolford's eyes. This man is going to get on his knees for Mommy. What's going on? When Wolford turned to look at the people again, he realized that they had already gotten into the elevator.

…

Meanwhile, after Sarah went through all her brother's medical records and test results in the dean's office, she finally let out a sigh. "Mr. Tanner, it seems like my brother got into a coma because of the blood clots that are pressing on his nerves in the brain. I have experience with this, so I can be in charge of Sebastian's care from now on!"

Six years ago, Sarah went overseas to further her studies, and she graduated to become a well-known surgeon. She was certain that she could save her brother! "Sure. I'll get the other staff members to work with you, too," Edward Tanner uttered with a smile. At that moment, someone heavily pushed the door in. Both Sarah and Edward were shocked—they spun their heads to stare at the door. A tall and muscular-looking figure stepped in, with a face so handsome that he looked like God had sculptured it personally. He was flawless!

However, despite the perfect facial features the man had, his cold expression made him seem like he wasn't looking to be approached by others at all. The man walked over to Edward before tugging Edward's arm toward him. "Walk!"

Medical dispute? Sarah's heart sank as she instinctively reached out for the man's arm while loudly questioning him, "Who are you? What do you want?!"

The very next second, Adam's icy gaze landed on Sarah!

Chapter 3: She Can Do It

"Let go!" Adam's gaze was filled with rage, and his voice carried the threat of him losing his mind the very next second. But Sarah wasn't afraid at all. As a doctor, she had vowed that she wouldn't allow others to cause trouble and bring harm to her fellow medical staff. She tightened her grip on the man as she shot the man a stern glare. "You let go of Mr. Tanner!" she uttered fiercely. She gave off a fearless aura as she spoke, and she seemed oddly attractive at that moment!

Adam seemed to calm down a little as he stared at the courageous woman before his eyes. He had a feeling that she wasn't going to give in so easily, so he—to everyone's surprise—explained the situation to her. "I'm getting Mr. Tanner to come over to save a life." Then, he shifted his gaze to look at Edward. Edward got the signal, so he hastily nodded and explained the situation. "Yeah. Don't get him wrong, Miss Walker. President Parish is a really nice person."

Um… Sarah froze. Did I misunderstand something? However, Sarah felt uneasy when she saw the grim look on Adam's face and the forced smile Edward gave her. What if Mr. Tanner is threatened? Sarah felt her pocket to check that her scalpel was there before she spoke again. "I'll go with you guys, then."

Adam could immediately tell that this woman didn't trust her. However, he couldn't care less. All he wanted then was for Edward to help his sister, Sofia! "Suit yourself!" Adam uttered with a scoff. Then, he turned and dragged Edward out of the room. Sarah tagged along behind them without any hesitation.

…

The three of them took an elevator to arrive at the emergency department on the second floor. The area was relatively small, and it felt even smaller with all the people who were gathered and clumped in the space. A bunch of doctors and nurses were circling the bed where a gorgeous young lady lay. Her face was pale and soaked in sweat, and her lips were turning purple. She was whining in pain as her body twitched uncontrollably.

Judging by the size of her stomach, it looked like she was about four months pregnant. Sarah couldn't help but widen her eyes when she saw the woman's face. That's her! Sofia Parish! When Sarah tilted her head up a little, she found another familiar face! That man was too worried to care about his surroundings then—all of his focus was on the woman in bed. Sarah couldn't help but shudder as she felt hatred arising in her chest. Joseph!

During Sarah's graduation, she had dressed in a wedding gown as she waited for Joseph's proposal. Everyone in school knew that Joseph was going to propose that day. However, he hadn't brought his red roses to her! She had watched as Joseph got to his knees before uttering a sincere confession and proposal to Sofia. Sarah watched as Sofia nodded and accepted the proposal. Right after that, Sofia gave Sarah a dirty glare. Sarah broke down and ran away before she ended up getting drunk in a bar and sleeping with a random man.

Joseph was the one who had altered her entire life! Wait… that means… Sarah turned her gaze to Adam. He's Sofia's brother! I've heard Sofia talk about him before—she mentioned that she had a loving brother. Hah! What a coincidence. I can't believe I'm bumping into them on my first day back in Astonville! They are the reason I had to suffer for years, and they are the reason I had to leave my homeland and meet with so many hardships! I'm going to make them pay for this!

Sarah eventually forced herself to look away. She did not realize how Adam frowned in her direction. His icy gaze flickered between Sarah and Sofia. Adam had a feeling that the fearless woman was someone who knew his sister. However, it wasn't the time for such questions then. Adam pressed his lips together as he waited for Edward to finish his assessment. "How is she?" Adam asked.

"She has a bowel obstruction, and her intestinal walls are inflamed and no longer contracting as usual. She has to go into surgery immediately. Otherwise, she might get a bowel rupture, which would cause an abdominal infection!" Edward cried. Adam knew nothing about medical terms, so he simply turned to look at Joseph after hearing Edward's words.

Even though Joseph hadn't pursued his career as a doctor, he had graduated from medical school. "I agree to have the surgery," Joseph uttered. Then, he turned to look at Sofia. "This is just a small surgery, Sofia. It'll be quick, and it's not going to hurt. I'll be here with you the whole time!" The sight of Joseph whispering into Sofia's ear reminded Sarah of how he used to whisper sweet nothings into her ear. Sarah felt a sour ache in her chest as tears welled up in her eyes. He's still as gentle and loving as ever, but this time, he's with another woman!

Sarah had to practically dig her nails into her palms just to maintain a calm look on her face. Sofia pressed her eyes shut as she sobbed. "I don't want to have a scar on my stomach. That's so ugly!" This woman refused to get the surgery just because she was worried about the aesthetics of her body. Sarah's gaze darkened as she clenched her fists even more.

Adam took a look at his sister before he spoke in a concerned but firm tone. "Are you still going to care about that at a time like this, Sofia? Your health matters the most. Get the surgery—"

"I don't want surgery, Adam! There has to be another way!" she cried.

Edward interrupted in a rather awkward tone. "The surgery is the best option we have now, Miss Parish…" Sarah looked around the room before she offered her opinion. "I can help Miss Parish to avoid getting surgery while also fixing her bowel issues. It'll only take a few minutes!"

Chapter 4: On Your Knees!

Everyone turned their gazes to Sarah the moment she spoke. Edward was rather puzzled upon hearing what she said. In the modern field of medicine, they had been taught to give an enema in minor cases of bowel obstruction and to offer surgery in severe cases. Some other traditional practices would suggest using herbs to relieve the obstruction, but that procedure would also take at least two to three days. Did Sarah just say that she could resolve this in a matter of minutes? How could that be?

Adam's main concern was his sister's well-being, so he was the first to voice out. However, his tone was harsh, almost as if he was interrogating Sarah. "What are you going to do? Do you have confidence in this?" He sounded as if he was going to punch Sarah in the face if she told him that she wasn't confident.

Sarah simply responded with a faint smile. "Of course. But I'm not sure if your precious little sister would allow me to treat her!" Only then did Joseph and Sofia turn their attention to Sarah. They both froze at the same time. What's she doing here? Didn't she disappear six years ago? Why is she showing up now? Joseph felt a mixture of emotions arising in him when he saw Sarah. He was speechless for a while.

Sofia seemed to have forgotten about the pain in her stomach as she quickly held onto Joseph's arm while giving Sarah a hostile glare. "What do you want, Sarah? Don't you dare harm me! I don't need your help. Leave!"

Sarah kept a smile on her face. "It's fine if you don't want me to help, Sofia. However, I can tell you that your obstruction lies in the lower half of your large intestine, which is in your lower abdomen. Your obstruction is about two to three inches long, so you'll have to remove this whole part of your intestine. You're going to end up with a hideous scar on your stomach, and you'll no longer be able to stuff yourself with food after that. If you exert too much pressure on your intestines, they're going to split and burst," she uttered.

Sofia was a medical student as well, so she was well aware of the outcomes of surgery. Even though Sarah had exaggerated her words a little, it was true that these issues would be her main concerns following the surgery. Furthermore, surgeries would generally take a toll on one's body, and Sofia would need to recuperate for at least six months before she could return to her usual self. On top of that, her flawless body would be scarred after the surgery! I know all of this, but I also know that I don't have a choice but to do the surgery now! Sofia thought.

If Sarah really has a way to help me avoid this surgery, I'd do anything for it! Sofia was genuinely impressed with Sarah's medical skills—Sarah had been at the top of their class back when they were in school together. When they took practical classes together, Sofia and her classmates were only ordered to observe the surgery, while Sarah had been invited to assist the head doctor in his surgeries!

But at the same time, this was Sarah that they were talking about! I was the one who snatched Joseph from her and shamed her in front of the whole school. Would she still be kind enough to save me after all of that? I'm not foolish enough to believe her! Sofia turned to look at Adam. "Adam…" she muttered weakly. Adam seemed to understand her intentions from the moment she spoke.

He turned to give Sarah an icy stare. "You! Treat Sofia immediately! Make sure you do a good job!" he barked. Even though Adam didn't know what sort of history Sarah and Sofia had, he wanted to make sure that Sarah was going to do a good job since she had offered to save his sister's life. She won't be able to afford to deal with the consequences otherwise! he thought. Not a single person in Astonville has ever had the guts to mess with me yet!

Sarah froze before she looked up at the man. He had an extremely gorgeous and charming face, yet he spoke and acted as if he were the devil. Sarah scoffed to herself. Do they think I'm still the pushover from all those years ago? Sarah curled her lips into a smirk. "Are you threatening me now? Is that how you ask for help, Mr. Parish?"

Help? Since when have I ever asked for help? Adam wondered. "Tell me how much you want!" he barked.

What more can I expect of a wealthy man?! Sarah twisted her lips into a displeased frown. "I only have one condition," she uttered after some thought. Then, she pointed at both Sofia and Joseph before speaking in a clear and loud voice. "I want them to get on their knees to beg me!"

Chapter 5: Forced

What? Edward and the rest of the doctors gasped in surprise. They couldn't help but feel worried for Sarah. It was a known fact that there wasn't a single soul in Astonville who had the guts to mess with Adam. Even Joseph, who had only taken over Parish Pharmaceuticals and helped it to grow in recent years, demanded the respect of senior figures like Edward. Joseph was practically in charge of providing most of the medical supplies in major hospitals in Astonville.

Even though Sofia was a married woman, she was still treated like a queen in Astonville because of how much Adam and Joseph pampered her. Sarah was asking for trouble by ordering them to get on their knees! Edward felt cold sweat forming on his skin as he hastily tugged Sarah's arm while whispering to her. "That's not a good idea, Miss Walker. Why don't you get Mr. Parish to offer you some money—"

Sarah interrupted the dean. "You saw what happened, Mr. Tanner. Mr. Parish was the one who begged me to save his sister. I'm just asking for a tiny request!" Sofia knew that Sarah wasn't going to save her out of pure kindness. I don't want to get surgery, but I don't want to get on my knees for Sarah, either! I can't allow Joseph to do it as well!

Sofia's lips were white, and her clothes were soaked in sweat because of the immense pain she was in. However, she simply let out a scoff. "You want me to get on my knees, huh, Sarah? Dream on! You're not worth it! I'd rather get surgery than beg you to save me!"

Sarah shrugged. "I was just acting per my moral compass earlier. But coming to think of it, I wouldn't want to get my hands dirty for you, either!" Then, Sarah turned to look at Adam with a smirk on her face. "Did you hear that, Mr. Parish? Your beloved sister is the one who's refusing my help."

Adam frowned. This woman is so illogical and ignorant! How could anyone agree to a request like hers? He reached his arm out and grabbed Sarah on her shoulder before he dragged her close to him. "Do your job, woman! Save her!" he hissed with an icy look on his face. His grip was so firm that it made Sarah's shoulder hurt.

However, Sarah kept the same calm and fearless look on her face as she looked at him with her large, cold eyes. "You're hurting me, Mr. Parish. You should apologize to me first!"

"You want an apology?" Adam scoffed. He found himself impressed by the woman's courage. There wasn't a single woman in Astonville who had the guts to ask him for an apology. There wasn't a single woman who dared to glare at him that way, either! "I'm afraid I don't make apologies!" Adam continued.

Instead of loosening his grip on Sarah, Adam chose to apply more force as he shoved her closer to the hospital bed. "Since you made your skills sound so impressive, I want you to treat her now. Otherwise, I won't allow you to leave this town in one piece!" Adam hissed.

"Hah." Sarah scoffed without showing any intention of treating Sofia. Everyone was shocked to see how calm she was—even Adam was shocked! Adam knew that the typical man wouldn't be able to handle the pain in their shoulder when he applied so much strength. Yet, there wasn't a hint of agony on Sarah's face. I can't believe she's still laughing at this point. How much can she take in? I'd like to see how much longer she can go like this.

Adam applied so much strength that the doctors around them could hear Sarah's bones cracking. "Don't you dare test my patience, woman…"

Sarah could feel her shoulder blade being crushed by the man's force. She could no longer feel her arm at that point. "You should know your limits!" she hissed at the man as she felt anger boiling in her. Then, she lifted her leg to attack the space between Adam's legs. Adam immediately spun aside to avoid her kick, and he loosened his grip a little as he did so.

Sarah seized this opportunity to lower herself and turn around before slipping out of Adam's grip by going under his arm.

Adam flipped his arm around and held onto her body as she was trying to escape. Coincidentally, his palm landed directly on Sarah's chest! He could feel the fullness of her breasts, and his scalp started to tingle as his gaze darkened. This is my first time touching a woman in the past six years… Adam was stunned by the familiar yet strange sensation that he felt with this woman!

"You should let go of me now before I slice off your member!" Sarah felt her face turning red as she shouted at the man. She was like an overstimulated cat hissing at him. Adam froze for a moment before he looked down to find a scalpel in Sarah's fair arm. She had held it between his legs. The tip of the knife had already sliced through his pants and was close to the skin of his private area! How quick and accurate is this woman? I might no longer have the dignity of a man if she had applied just a little more strength. I've never been so ashamed in my 30 years of living!

"You're asking for death, woman!" Adam growled like a crazed animal.
