Chapter 1: A Marriage In Name Only

"It's been three years! Even a hen would have laid an egg by now! If it weren't for the tricks you used back then, how could you have married into our family?!"

Every time Bethany visited South Bay Mansion, she would taunt and mock Whitney for her inability to conceive.

But little did she know that after three years of marriage between Whitney Stone and Yoel Grant, Yoel still believed that Whitney had schemed against him, seduced him into bed, and attracted the attention of the media. He despised her to the extreme and had never touched her.

If they hadn't even consummated their marriage, how could she even get pregnant?

Whitney lowered her head and whispered, "Mom, it's all my fault. Please don't be angry…"

At that moment, a servant brought a bowl of pitch-black medicine.

"Drink this medicine. Yoel will come back for dinner later. If you miss this chance, don't call yourself Mrs. Grant anymore!"

Chance? What chance?

Before Whitney could comprehend, Yoel returned.

He was a handsome man with a cold and elegant demeanor. He didn't even glance at Whitney and simply asked, "Mom, why are you here?"

"What's wrong? Do you think this old lady came to freeload and disturb your private time as a couple?"

Yoel frowned and glanced at the obedient Whitney. "That's not what I meant, Mom."

"I specially had the kitchen prepare this duck stew. Yoel, you've been losing weight recently, so eat more!"

As she spoke, Bethany gave Whitney a meaningful look. Whitney stood up and served a bowl of stew to Yoel.

Although Yoel was a little displeased, he still accepted it and ate the stew.

Seeing him finish the stew, Bethany smiled. "Alright, it's getting late. I won't disturb you anymore. Rest early!"

"I'm full."

Not long after Bethany left, Yoel put down his cutlery and went upstairs.

Whitney forced a bitter smile. If it weren't for Bethany staying for dinner, Yoel would have found it annoying to even sit at the same table with her.

Was there still a need to continue this marriage in name only?

Whitney went upstairs, and as soon as she opened the door, she heard a commotion from the adjacent room.

Ever since they got married, they had always slept in separate rooms.

At first, she didn't want to interfere, but the noises became increasingly strange, so she walked over and knocked on the door. "Yoel? Are you there?"

There was no movement inside. Whitney was about to leave when suddenly the door opened, and a long, slender hand reached out from inside, pulling her in!

Immediately after, a torrent of kisses overwhelmed her.

Whitney struggled. "Yoel, look carefully. I am not Sabrina Stark!"

Yoel fiercely bit Whitney's earlobe. "You drugged the food, didn't you? Whitney, your methods are becoming more and more clumsy!"

Whitney was confused. "What drug? I didn't—Ah!"

Before she could finish her sentence, Yoel threw her onto the bed.

Whitney suddenly remembered—it was the bowl of duck stew!

"Yoel, you can't—Mmph!"

"Heh, you think you can trap me with such despicable means? Whitney, you really disgust me!"

It hurts!

Even though he knew it was her first time, the man showed no mercy.

Indeed, in his eyes, Whitney was just a woman who would do anything for money.

A tear rolled down her cheek.

After the pleasure, although her body felt weak, she couldn't fall asleep.

Suddenly, his phone vibrated.

Whitney picked it up and saw a prenatal ultrasound photo, and the name of the sender was Sabrina!

At that moment, Whitney felt like she had descended into hell. Her five years of having a crush on him and the three years of marriage all turned out to be a joke!

Whitney took one last look at the slumbering man. "Yoel Grant, we will never see each other again!"

…

The next day, Yoel opened his eyes and found that she was no longer beside him.

As he sat up, a piece of paper slipped from beneath the pillow.

He picked it up, and his face instantly darkened.

The words "Divorce Agreement" triggered a surge of anger within him.

"Whitney Stone!"

This audacious and d*mn woman had the nerve to leave a divorce agreement after sleeping with him and then run away!

Four years later, at Lithberg International Airport.

In the bustling airport, a woman emerged from the exit, immediately capturing the attention of passersby.

It was because this woman exuded an extraordinary aura!

Her fair and flawless skin had a subtle rosy glow; even under the lights, it radiated a dazzling brightness. Her thin lips were as tender and juicy as cherries, but what was even more striking were her rare amber eyes, fluttering her long lashes delicately like a butterfly spreading its wings.

This person was none other than Whitney, who had been absent from Lithberg for nearly four years!

Whitney paid no mind to the admiring glances from passersby. She wore wireless earphones and was engaged in a phone conversation.

"Zita, you really don't have to come and pick me up—"

Thud!

Whitney's phone slipped from her hand and fell to the ground.

Instinctively, Whitney looked down and saw a tousled head of hair and a few unruly cowlicks swaying back and forth.

"Little kid, you should watch where you're going. Did you hurt yourself?"

As she spoke, Whitney was about to help the little boy up, but as soon as her hand touched him, he slapped it away.

Despite his childlike voice, his tone was surprisingly fierce. "Don't touch me!"

Tsk, does this child have no manners? Not only did he fail to apologize after bumping into someone, but he's also behaving aggressively.

Compared to her children, Morris and Daisy, at home, this kid was simply in a different league.

Four years ago, after severing the ties of love and fleeing, she unexpectedly became pregnant and gave birth to three children abroad.

Morris was a kind-hearted little boy, and Daisy was an adorable little princess. As for the other child, he was stillborn…

This was the most painful memory for Whitney to recall.

Just as she thought of this, the little boy in her arms suddenly raised his head.

Locking eyes with the round and distinctive amber eyes of the little boy, Whitney was taken aback. "Morris? What are you doing here? Did you secretly follow me onto the plane?"

The boy, Scott Grant, blushed; his breathing became rapid, and his heart felt like it was about to leap out of his chest. He was confused as to why this woman called him Morris.

Whitney keenly noticed that the little boy's wrist was adorned with a bracelet, and the circular screen displayed not the time but numbers.

At that moment, the number had already reached 110, and it was still increasing. There was also a red heart next to the number, continuously pulsating and emitting a beeping sound.

Before Scott could react, Whitney grabbed his hand.

Scott's eyes widened. This woman is touching me, but I don't feel repulsed!

However, he blurted out unconsciously, "You can't touch—Mmph!"

Unexpectedly, before he could finish his sentence, the woman in front of him covered his mouth with her hand.

Simultaneously, she lifted him slightly and lightly smacked his bottom.

"You're becoming more audacious. It's one thing to secretly follow me, but how dare you act aggressively toward me? You're not allowed to use the tablet for one day!"

Chapter 2: Airport Encounter

Scott's eyes widened in an instant. This woman actually dared to slap his backside!

Even his father wouldn't dare to lay a finger on him!

Wait, why didn't she get electrocuted?

After finishing her lecture, Whitney didn't hear the usual chatter from the little troublemaker, which made her feel strange.

Usually, this mischievous child would never miss an opportunity to cause trouble. Could he be plotting something in his mind?

Lowering her head, she saw the little troublemaker in her arms looking at her with a bewildered expression.

"Morris, why are you staring at me like that? Did you draw a turtle on my face while I wasn't looking?"

As Whitney thought about touching her own face, Scott pushed her away and took two steps back.

How come this woman didn't get electrocuted after touching me? Could it be that I'm no longer leaking electricity?

Scott reached out with a small hand and tentatively grabbed the stainless steel handrail next to him.

There was a crackling sound, followed by several loud bangs.

Starting from Scott, the lights above his head went out one after another.

In an instant, the entire airport plunged into darkness!

The sudden darkness caused panic in the airport, and screams and sounds of people fleeing filled the air.

Whitney thought they were under some kind of terrorist attack. Without thinking about anything else, she picked up the little troublemaker and ran outside.

Fortunately, the airport's announcement came quickly. "Dear passengers, due to a circuit malfunction, maintenance personnel are currently working on repairs. We apologize for any inconvenience caused..."

It turned out to be just a circuit malfunction. Whitney breathed a sigh of relief and put the little troublemaker down on the ground.

"Morris, wait for Mommy here, and don't run around. I'll go get the luggage and come back."

M-Mommy?

This unfamiliar term made Scott stunned in place.

The lights in the airport hadn't returned to normal yet, so Whitney took out her phone and turned on the flashlight to light the way.

As she approached the baggage carousel, screams erupted one after another.

"Aaaah, it's Sabrina Stark!"

"We love you, Sabrina!"

"Sabrina, look at me!"

Hearing Sabrina's name, Whitney clenched her fist and tried to change her path. However, in the darkness, she accidentally bumped into a broad chest while turning a corner.

A familiar scent of pine made Whitney's scalp tingle in an instant!

Because she had smelled this scent for three whole years, it had been etched into her very bones!

It was Yoel!

"You..."

Being bumped into by someone, Yoel, the germophobe CEO, was extremely displeased. But before he could say anything, the person who bumped into him turned their head and ran away, not even offering an apology.

At that moment, electricity was restored in the airport, and Yoel happened to see the fleeing figure, turning a corner and revealing half of a side profile that made him grit his teeth in hatred!

Whitney?!

Was it really that despicable woman?

Yoel was about to chase after her when Sabrina hooked her arm through his.

"Sorry, Yoel. I didn't expect to be recognized by fans and cause you trouble. Let's hurry and leave. Scott's illness is more important."

Looking down at Sabrina's arm looping through his, Yoel discreetly retracted it.

Just then, his assistant, Larry Quinn, rushed over in a hurry.

"Mr. Grant, something bad happened. Mr. Scott is missing!"

Yoel frowned. "What happened?"

Larry, sweating profusely, replied, "Ten minutes ago, Mr. Scott said he wanted to use the restroom. We waited outside for five minutes but didn't see him come out. When we went in to check, we found... we found that Mr. Scott had escaped through the window!"

Yoel's face turned extremely pale.

When Scott was brought to him by the century-old, prestigious medical family, the Sylvester Family, he was less than a hundred days old and on the verge of death due to congenital heart disease.

He initially didn't believe it when his son suddenly appeared out of nowhere—until the Sylvesters presented DNA paternity test results confirming the biological father-son relationship.

And Yoel was certain that he had only slept with Whitney, which meant that she secretly gave birth to a child and abandoned him!

To save his life, Yoel had no choice but to agree to a heart transplant, but after the surgery, there were often issues with electrical leakage.

So today, he had planned to take him for a checkup, but he never expected that this little guy would dare to run away!

"You useless bunch of people! If you don't find Scott, all of you can pack up and leave!"

Sabrina's face lit up with a smug smile when she heard that Scott was missing.

Back then, she had deliberately used a fake pregnancy report to force Whitney to leave. If it weren't for this sudden troublemaker, she would have long claimed the title of Mrs. Grant. She wished Scott would just die outside and never come back!

But on the surface, Sabrina pretended to be very worried. "Scott is only three years old. It would be dangerous if he ran into human traffickers!"

Meanwhile, pulling her luggage along, Whitney held Scott's hand, having left the airport.

"This way, Whitney!"

Her best friend, Zita Lenton, had already arrived, wearing a pair of oversized sunglasses that covered half of her face.

Zita dropped out of high school and was discovered by a talent scout, and she had been struggling in the entertainment industry for years. She had been relatively unknown until she played a malicious supporting female character last year, unexpectedly becoming popular. So now she had to disguise herself when going out.

Zita gave Whitney a big hug.

"Welcome back, my beautiful author!"

After the hug, Zita wanted to hug Scott, too. "Oh, my little baby, Godmother missed you so much. Come here, and let me give you a kiss!"

This woman is so intimidating!

Scott was scared and hid behind Whitney, only showing a pair of amber eyes, cautiously watching Zita.

"Why does Morris seem like he doesn't recognize me?"

Whitney patted his little head. "How could that be? Maybe he's just being shy after I scolded him."

"Zita, please drop me off at the subway station later. I'll take the subway there. Can you take care of Morris for a while? I'll come pick him up after I finish my business."

Zita clicked her tongue disapprovingly. "If you continue to be so formal with me, I'll be upset with you. You've just returned to Lithberg and haven't found a house yet, right? Stay at my place for now. It's settled, and I won't accept any objections!"

Whitney knew that Zita was concerned about her managing two children alone.

It had been tough for her when she was pregnant. She was alone in a foreign country and started writing novels to support herself. Because she had studied editing and publishing in college, her writing skills were quite good, and her first book turned out to be a huge success online.

Thanks to this writing job, Whitney and her two children were living comfortably abroad.

This time, she returned to the country because a company was interested in adapting her first novel into a TV series.

This book held great significance for Whitney. She hadn't sold the copyright to the publishing website, so she, as the author, needed to personally attend the negotiations for the adaptation.

"Morris, Mommy has some business matters to attend to right now. I'll bring you some custard tarts when I come back. Behave well with your godmother."

After saying that, Whitney, as usual, kissed the little troublemaker on his cheek.

Scott's eyes widened, and his face instantly turned red!

Scott, who had a strong obsession with cleanliness, suddenly realized that maybe kissing wasn't so unpleasant after all.

Just as Whitney left, Scott jumped out of the car, wanting to chase after her.

Zita quickly held him back and said, "My little darling, your mommy just went to work. Since when did the little devil become so clingy?"

Chapter 3: Mr Grant's Intentions Towards My Girlfriend

As Zita spoke, she held Scott's hand.

This is not good!

Scott wanted to pull his hand back, but it was too late.

An electric current quickly surged into Zita's palm, creating a crackling sound.

Zita fell back onto the back seat of the car, convulsing momentarily, with smoke rising from her head!

The driver in the driver's seat thought Zita was sick and hurried to check on her.

"Ms. Lenton, are you okay..."

But the driver accidentally touched Scott's hand and was electrocuted, trembling like a leaf.

His eyes rolled back, and he fell down, with smoke coming out of his mouth!

Scott was dumbstruck.

Great, I electrocuted both of them.

Following the address, Whitney arrived at a finance center.

Among the white-collar workers coming and going, Whitney immediately recognized the girl standing on the right side of the door, wearing a pair of round black-framed glasses, like a recent graduate.

It was Pammy. She was an assistant editor at The Read, the publishing website with whom Whitney signed a contract.

"Pammy?"

Whitney approached and greeted her proactively. Pammy turned around abruptly, and when she saw Whitney up close, her stunning beauty made her jaw drop wide enough to fit an egg.

"M-Ms. Duskwind?"

Duskwind was Whitney's pen name online. She extended her hand. "Yes, it's me. Nice to meet you."

Pammy hurriedly shook hands with Whitney in a fluster.

"Ms. Duskwind, actually, I noticed you when you just came out of the subway, but I didn't dare to approach you. I didn't expect you to be so good-looking in person. You look like an angel!"

The reason she started writing novels was to make a living.

Whitney didn't expect her first book to be such a hit. The Read even invited her to attend their annual meeting and wanted to do an exclusive interview with her.

But she rejected all of it. Back then, after sleeping with Yoel, she left behind a divorce agreement and ran away.

The Grants had been searching for her whereabouts. Once her photo appeared on the internet, if Yoel found out, it would be over for her.

"No need to be so formal. We've known each other for almost four years. Just call me Duskwind."

After entering the lobby, a woman in her thirties sitting on the couch by the window walked over.

Pammy immediately introduced her to Whitney. "Duskwind, this is our editor-in-chief, Muse."

Muse looked at Whitney's eyes without concealing her astonishment. "Hello, Duskwind. Previously, our group of editors was discussing what kind of person could write such a delicate and detailed writing style as 'Deep Love.' Seeing you today, Duskwind, it's really a pity that you didn't end up becoming a celebrity!"

"You're too kind."

Muse enthusiastically led the way in front, and while waiting for the elevator, she explained, "The representatives from Penumbra Media, a film and media company under LC Group which is interested in 'Deep Love,' have already arrived. If you have any requirements regarding the copyright, you can discuss them in the meeting. Of course, we will also make every effort to negotiate a satisfactory copyright fee for you."

Ding.

The elevator arrived.

Just as Whitney and the group entered, a large hand suddenly stopped the elevator door.

"Sorry."

It was a gentle voice, and then a man walked in with long strides.

"Long time no see, Whitney."

The other person called out her name, and Whitney looked up, meeting the man's ink-black eyes.

The man had distinct facial features, with a high nose bridge. And especially those eyes, they looked as if they were shining.

Whitney felt that this man seemed familiar, but for a moment, she couldn't remember his name.

"You are..."

While they were talking, a stretched Lincoln stopped at the main entrance of the finance center.

An attendant immediately came out to greet him personally.

"Mr. Grant, welcome!"

Yoel stepped out of the car with a stern expression and strode into the building.

Larry followed closely beside him and reported, "Mr. Grant, it appears that Mr. Scott damaged the power supply at the airport. The surveillance footage only captured him escaping from the restroom, and several cameras are currently being repaired. The police have also requested the surveillance footage outside the airport..."

As Yoel casually glanced around, he happened to catch sight of a familiar and delicate profile in the adjacent elevator!

Coincidentally, Whitney met Yoel's gaze from the corner of her eye, and a chill ran down her spine!

It's Yoel! Oh my goodness!

Meeting at the airport would have been one thing, but how could they bump into each other here? The world is so small!

In a panic, Whitney quickly pulled a hat out of her bag, placed it on her head, and swiftly turned around.

In her heart, she silently prayed, I would trade ten pounds of my fat just so Yoel didn't see me earlier!

But just as the elevator doors were about to close, a slender hand intercepted them.

Upon seeing Yoel's face, Muse became excited. "Oh my god, it's Mr. Grant! Hello, Mr. Grant, I'm Muse, the chief editor of The Read. It's an honor to ride the elevator with you. Here's our company's business card!"

This woman, Muse, must have an inferiority complex, right?

And she's also audacious and stubborn. How dare she talk to Mr. Grant, the cold-faced reaper!

"I'm sorry, but Mr. Grant doesn't accept business cards from strangers—"

Larry was about to refuse as usual, but Yoel suddenly extended his long, elegant hand.

Using two fingers, he picked up the business card and took it.

Larry was left speechless.

He had never been so embarrassed before.

Am I dreaming, or is Mr. Grant not his usual self?

Yoel glanced at the business card, but his gaze remained fixed on the figure that always had her back turned to him.

"The Read?"

His voice was deep and irresistibly magnetic.

Muse began to ramble, "Yes, our company operates in the new media and cultural industry, primarily focused on literary creation..."

"Is she also from your company?"

Yoel wasn't interested in the nature of this small company's business.

His gaze was like that of a hawk, unwaveringly fixed on Whitney's figure.

As the elevator ascended, Whitney's hat sported a pair of upright rabbit ears that occasionally twitched, mirroring her current state of mind—like a startled rabbit ready to flee at any moment.

However, Muse completely failed to sense the imminent danger and mistakenly thought that Yoel was inquiring about her colleague.

"Oh, Mr. Grant, this is Pammy, our company's assistant editor—"

Before she could finish her sentence, Yoel coldly interrupted, "I'm asking about her."

He was referring to Whitney!

Muse was about to introduce her, but Whitney suddenly swayed, and the man beside her promptly supported her. "Whit..."

"Please help me put on a little act!"

Whitney quickly whispered something to the man. Then, she leaned against him, burying almost her entire face in his embrace.

In a strained voice, she said, "Darling, I'm feeling a bit lightheaded."

The endearment not only left Muse and the others dumbfounded but also made Yoel's face darken like a storm cloud!

Yoel took a step forward and reached out towards Whitney, but before he could touch her, another hand intercepted him.

"What does Mr. Grant intend to do with my girlfriend?"

Chapter 4: Cameron Knight

The mention of "girlfriend" made Yoel nervous.

He smirked and asked, "Girlfriend? Are you sure?"

"Of course, she's my girlfriend. If I don't know that, then who does? You? If that's the case, then I wonder what Mr. Grant is trying to imply?"

Their gazes locked as soon as those words were spoken. It felt like they were engaged in an intense battle, with sparks flying!

Ding!

The elevator arrived on the 22nd floor.

Just as the conflict was about to escalate, Whitney grabbed the man's hand and said, "Darling, we should leave!"

Yoel didn't chase after them. However, his intense and dangerous gaze remained fixed on their intertwined hands!

"Sorry, Mr. Grant, we have a project to discuss. We'll be leaving."

Just as Muse was about to follow the duo, Yoel stopped him and asked, "Is she with you guys?"

This time, Muse quickly realized that Yoel was referring to Whitney. "Mr. Grant, are you talking about Duskwind? She is our company's platinum-contracted writer. Do you know her?"

Contracted writer?

Huh, this woman seemed to be worse off after four years!

Yoel's lips curled into a cold smile at that thought. "I don't know her. You can leave!"

His face turned icy as he replayed their earlier interaction in his mind. When they arrived at the 33rd floor, Larry reminded him, "Mr. Grant, we have arrived."

As Yoel was about to step out of the elevator, he suddenly spoke up, "Quickly investigate this Duskwind and gather all the information about that man, too!"

How dare she flirt with some unknown man after four years? She had certainly become bolder over the years!

Whitney was still trembling with fear even after turning the corner and confirming that Yoel hadn't caught up with her. She had encountered her ex-husband twice on her very first visit back to the country after so many years. Could her luck get any worse?

Perhaps misfortune was destined to follow her whenever she was in Lithberg. But Yoel probably didn't recognize her earlier, right? Otherwise, considering his personality, he would have already caught her and made her life miserable.

That's it. After selling the copyright of my work and signing the contract, I'm definitely leaving the country and never coming back. If I ever return to this wretched place, I better be kicking and screaming!

If Yoel found out about Morris and Daisy... God, she didn't even want to think about the consequences she would face.

"Whitney, are you okay?"

A concerned voice snapped Whitney out of her thoughts. Then, she suddenly realized she was still holding the man's hand. So, she quickly let go and apologized profusely, "I'm really sorry. I didn't think things through, and I needed... Anyway, it was urgent, and I didn't mean to cause you any trouble! Regardless, I'm very grateful for your help earlier."

The man stared at her intently before asking, "Don't you recognize me anymore?"

Whitney's mind was occupied by Yoel's presence. So, she wasn't in the right state of mind to think about anything else. Hence, she asked tentatively, "Sorry, may I ask who you are?"

"I'm Cameron Knight."

Whitney immediately made the connection. But just as she was about to exchange pleasantries with him, Owen Turner's voice came from behind, saying, "Mr. Knight, the meeting is about to start."

Muse and the others also caught up, utterly surprised. "Is this gentleman here for the project as well?"

Owen introduced Cameron to everyone else present, saying seriously, "You three are in charge of The Read, right? This is Mr. Knight, the CEO of LC Group."

"So, you're Cameron! What a coincidence! Do you and Duskwind know each other?"

Cameron's gaze never left Whitney as he smiled politely and replied, "We were college classmates."

Whitney quickly corrected her form of address, blurting out, "We both attended the same college."

She studied editing and publishing at Lithberg University, while Cameron was in the finance department. The two buildings were quite far apart. However, Whitney had heard about Cameron's reputation since she enrolled in the university.

"I didn't expect you two to be college classmates! What a small world! Since you and Duskwind are classmates, I'm sure our cooperation will go smoothly!"

Cameron chuckled and replied, "I've read that book. It's very well-written."

A CEO like him actually reads romance novels? Are there any surprising secrets he's hiding?

Owen added, "The adaptation of 'Deep Love' has been a key project of LC Group ever since Mr. Knight became the CEO. He has attached great importance to it and took time out of his busy schedule to personally discuss the copyright issues."

"Mr. Knight and Duskwind are old acquaintances! I believe that this will be the start of a beautiful cooperation!"

During the meeting, LC Group began by offering a very generous copyright fee.

Furthermore, Cameron had focused on steering his company towards the film and television industry. Therefore, he personally selected "Deep Love" as one of the company's major projects. Once the copyright was secured, the LC Group would invest in the novel and turn it into a top-level filming project.

After successful negotiations, Whitney carefully read through the contract and found herself satisfied with the terms.

Just as Whitney was about to sign, Muse, who had received a call, hurriedly returned. She stopped Whitney and said urgently, "Duskwind, wait."

"What's the matter, Ms. Muse?"

Muse felt a little embarrassed as she pulled Whitney aside and whispered, "Duskwind, I just received a call from our boss. He said that we should delay authorizing the copyright of 'Deep Love.'"

Whitney furrowed her brows in confusion. "I think the offer from LC Group is already generous enough. Why bother?"

"Because there's another company that's also interested in 'Deep Love'. The offer they've made is slightly higher than LC's."

Another company is interested in 'Deep Love'? When does my debut novel, which I wrote four years ago, become so sought after?

Still, it would be foolish to say no to more money. Since someone else had offered a higher royalty fee, Whitney thought it would be best to consider her options before moving forward.

"I apologize, Mr. Knight. There are still some parts of the contract that the company's lawyer has yet to review. We would like to clarify some of the terms before proceeding. Can we give you an answer tomorrow?"

Cameron had a good temper, so he didn't get angry. Instead, he agreed and handed Whitney a business card.

Whitney was surprised by his pleasant demeanor and his actions.

"If you have any questions about the contract, feel free to contact me. Just give me a call tomorrow if you think that we're good to go. I'm available anytime."

Since he offered his business card, she accepted it out of politeness and nodded in agreement.

"Whitney, allow me the honor of treating you to dinner tonight if you have the time. After all, I just became your boyfriend a few minutes ago. At least let me treat you to a nice meal."

Whitney felt a bit embarrassed. Unfortunately, she had no choice but to decline when she thought about her precious son waiting for her at home. So, she replied apologetically, "I'm sorry, Mr. Knight. I have other commitments tonight. Why don't I treat you to a meal another day? Consider it a thank you for your help today. Is that alright with you?"

Cameron didn't insist on the matter. "Sure, see you then. I hope you will seriously consider my proposal. I really value the adaptation of 'Deep Love.'"

As they left the financial building, Pammy exclaimed excitedly, "Where are you going, Duskwind? Do you want us to give you a ride?"

Whitney was about to express her gratitude for their kindness when a voice called out from behind, saying, "Excuse me, Miss Stone."

She instinctively turned around to the source of the voice and noticed that it was Larry, Yoel's assistant.

Larry addressed her as Miss Stone, indicating that Yoel must have recognized her earlier!

Whitney instinctively tightened her grip on the strap of her bag.

Larry made a polite gesture and said, "Miss Stone, Mr. Grant would like to speak with you."

"I'm sorry, but I don't know Mr. Grant personally. Therefore, there is no necessity for me to meet him. I have other pressing matters that require my attention. Farewell."

Chapter 5: Escape

Whitney's path was abruptly blocked before she could take a single step. Instead, the sound of precise footsteps filled her ears as a group of sunglasses-wearing bodyguards dressed in black surrounded her. Their expressionless faces only added to their intimidating presence.

Whitney's face immediately tensed at the sight.

Pammy and Muse were also frightened by this oppressive display.

"Duskwind, should we call the police?"

Muse, standing beside her, quickly covered her mouth after uttering those words.

"Do you want to get yourself killed? They're from the Grant Corporation. If you offend the Grant Family, forget about having a career or making a living in Lithberg!"

Muse's words held truth, as Yoel had always been an unreasonable and self-centered man.

This aspect of his personality hadn't changed during the four years they had been apart.

Larry smiled and said, "Miss Stone, we mean no harm to you or your friends. Your friends can leave if you cooperate and come with us."

Whitney took a deep breath, acknowledging his audacity. However, she knew that she couldn't escape this sticky situation she found herself in.

Once Pammy and Muse left, Larry respectfully addressed her, "Mrs. Grant."

Whitney found this address extremely ironic.

Once upon a time, she happily married Yoel, striving to become a worthy wife for him.

In the end, all her efforts were in vain. It took her three years to realize that love wasn't the answer to everything and that love alone wasn't enough.

"Mr. Quinn, Yoel and I are already divorced. Please choose your words carefully."

The customized Lincoln was parked on a secluded road.

The car door remained open, revealing a tall figure sitting comfortably in the back seat. He had crossed his long legs while waiting for her arrival.

However, Whitney wasn't about to take any chances. She stopped at a safe distance from him.

Yoel's voice carried clear displeasure as he ordered, "Come here."

Whitney remained motionless.

"Since we are nothing but strangers, it is more appropriate for us to maintain a safe distance while conversing. Let's avoid any misunderstandings. Besides, it's natural to feel uncomfortable being in close proximity with someone you barely know. Mr. Grant, if you have something to say, just say it. I am busy."

How bold of her. It seems her bravery has grown significantly over the years!

Yoel smirked disdainfully before reaching out and grabbing Whitney's arm.

Judging by the strength of his grip, it was clear that he would drag her into the car if she refused to cooperate.

Whitney shrieked in fear, "Help!"

Before she could utter another word, his other hand reached for her throat.

"Whitney, who gave you the courage to speak to me in such a manner?"

She instinctively struggled against his grasp. However, the vast difference in strength between them forced her to remain still.

"Mr. Grant, you dragged me into this car yourself. Do I need to remind you that your fiancée won't be pleased when she finds out about this?"

Yoel tightly pinched her chin, his grip firm and ruthless. "You never mentioned that when you climbed into my bed and used every means to seduce me, Mrs. Grant."

He leaned in close, his cool and dangerous breath brushing against her face.

At that moment, Whitney was reminded of the night before their divorce. That night, they were entangled in bed.

Whitney felt both humiliated and annoyed once she realized where her mind had wandered.

"Yoel, we are already divorced. Let go of me, or I will report you for sexual harassment!"

The man sneered contemptuously, "Divorced? Did I agree to it? Whitney, you're quite cunning. You schemed your way into the Grant Family, slept with me, and dared to run away without a word. Do you really think I wouldn't break your legs for that betrayal?"

It seemed that he had spoiled this woman excessively throughout their three years of marriage, making her completely oblivious to her position!

Whitney almost burst out laughing as she replied, "Yoel, could it be that you've actually fallen in love with me? I've already signed the divorce agreement. You are the one who has shamelessly refused to follow through with the divorce. Do you intend to go back on your word? Sure, you might not think that your marital status is an inconvenience. However, I regret to inform you that I find it repulsive."

Yoel felt his anger rise upon hearing her words.

No one had ever dared to speak to him in such a disrespectful and defiant manner!

"You find it repulsive? Is that right? Then, I'll make it clear to you what the consequences are for angering me!"

Without giving her a chance to react, he forcefully tore her clothes apart. As a result, the buttons of her white silk shirt scattered everywhere! It was as if her clothes were made of paper, not cloth.

Only then did she start to feel afraid as the cold breeze mercilessly brushed against her skin.

"Yoel, are you crazy?! What are you going to do?"

The man sneered, "Naturally, I'm going to make you fulfill your marital obligations!"

After that, he lowered his head and forcefully kissed her.

Whitney opened her mouth and bit down hard!

Hiss!

Yoel narrowed his eyes dangerously.

A metallic taste of blood filled his mouth as he licked his wounded lips.

This woman actually dared to bite him! How audacious!

Just as he was about to severely punish this ungrateful woman, a tear rolled down from the corner of her eye and fell onto the back of his hand.

In that instant, his heart felt like it had been scalded!

"Why won't you let me touch you? Does your so-called boyfriend know how seductive you are in bed?"

Whitney lost her temper at his disrespect and viciously slapped him across the face.

"Get lost!"

The crisp slap stunned Yoel for a moment. She immediately took advantage of his dazed state as she fumbled for the car door. Then, she wasted no time pushing it open and running away.

"Mrs. Grant!"

Larry, who was waiting outside, wanted to give chase. Before he could make a move, Yoel stopped him, saying, "There's no need to chase after her."

Larry opened the car door and saw Yoel leaning against the back of the seat, his tie askew.

There was a hint of blood staining the corners of his lips. Coupled with his bloodshot eyes and a clear palm print on his right cheek… He looked disheveled.

It seemed that not only did he fail to get what he had been anticipating, but he had also been harmed by his prey.

"Mr. Grant, your face!"

Yoel waved his hand and casually wiped the corners of his mouth with the back of his hand. To his surprise, he was unexpectedly in a good mood.

Frankly, he hadn't felt this satisfied since this audacious woman had run away and disappeared four years ago.

"Mr. Grant, that's… Well, are you going to let Miss Stone go just like that?"

Outsiders might not be aware of what was happening behind the scenes. That wasn't the case for Larry, as he was Yoel's personal assistant. So, he knew very well that Yoel had been searching for Whitney for four whole years!

Yoel quirked his lips into a mirthless smirk. "She can't escape from my grasp."

Indeed, she had managed to escape once before. So, how could he possibly allow her to escape a second time?

She had an affair with him four years ago. Yet, she left behind a divorce agreement, fled, gave birth to their child, and promptly abandoned him. This deceitful woman was unworthy of being a wife, let alone a mother!

How could he possibly give her any chance of freedom?!

Two children holding hands emerged from the exit of Lithberg International Airport. The peculiar sight immediately caught the attention of passing travelers, especially when they saw that no adults were accompanying the children.

"Wow, those two kids are so adorable! They look like delicate dolls come to life!"

"Are they twins? They're so adorable. Oh, my heart!"

Unfortunately, Morris and Daisy Stone were not interested in the excitement of those women. Instead, they had a very important task at hand!

"Morris, we came here without permission. If Mom finds out, will she be angry and not buy candy for me?"

Daisy held a lollipop in one hand and a pure white stuffed rabbit with lop ears in the other.

Morris held Daisy's hand and asked her sincerely, "Is it more important to find Daddy or to have candy?"
