Chapter 1: "181 Seconds"

Jack Scott cheated on her.

Yvette Clark stood outside the fitting room of the bridal shop, watching her fiancé having an affair with another woman.

"Jack, does this wedding gown look better on me, or on your fiancée?" said the woman.

"Of course on you. I'm practically dying on you to prove your charm!" replied Jack.

Satisfied with his response, the woman couldn't help but giggle.

"I want you to remember me forever. On your wedding day, on your anniversaries, you'll always think of today, think of me," said the woman happily.

Yvette felt heavily hit, listening to the moaning inside.

The night before their wedding, Jack, who had always been devoted to family, had been frequently traveling for work. It turned out he kept a woman outside.

Suppressing the churn in her stomach, Yvette turned and walked to her car.

After seven years together, they had built BroadHorizon from the ground up, working tirelessly side by side.

Her sister once warned her that Jack wasn't a good man, sending her a message, "We, the Clark family, won't be attending your wedding. You should think it twice."

With tearful eyes, Yvette opened her phone and replied, "I'm not marrying him."

After a long pause, her sister responded, "In a month, when you return to Central City, I'll believe you. Otherwise, our sisterhood is over."

Yvette sent a simple "Okay" and put her phone away.

As she drove away, Jack stepped out of the bridal shop with the woman, pausing when he spotted her familiar license plate.

In that moment of hesitation, her car was already far down the road.

He pushed the woman's hand off his arm, straightened his clothes, and resumed his composed demeanor.

"I'll have Sean take you home."

The woman pouted, "But you promised to take me shopping."

Jack raised his hand, ruffling her hair with a coldness that brooked no argument, "Be good."

The woman withdrew her hand reluctantly and followed his assistant, Sean, away.

Once she was gone, Jack walked to his car. The reflection on the car's surface showed his image, no trace of the alcohol or women from earlier.

Returning home, he spotted Yvette's car in the garage. She was sitting in the driver's seat, staring at her phone.

"Out already?" He opened the car door, casually tossing his suit jacket onto the passenger seat, leaning in closer.

His black shirt was casually unbuttoned, revealing well-defined muscles, with no signs of any other woman.

Noticing her silence, he leaned in to kiss her.

Yvette turned off her phone and raised her hand to block him, her tone sharp, "Are you afraid I'll leave?"

He paused for a moment. "Of course not! If you want to go out, you can do it anytime. I just worry you'll be bored without anyone to keep you company."

With that, he smiled and wrapped his arms around her waist, talking softly, "Tell me, who made my sweetheart angry?"

Yvette didn't respond, staring at his strikingly handsome face, her eyes icy.

He was still just like he used to be—he picked up on her moods immediately, jumped in to fix things when there was an issue, and always gave her the most thoughtful emotional care.

Yvette shook her head, avoiding his gaze, her voice flat, "Jack, you seem busy lately. I think we don't need to have the wedding. I'm worried you'll be stretched too thin."

Jack felt Yvette was being ungrateful. He was a well-known figure now.

"Say that again!"

His voice was laced with anger.

Yvette met his gaze.

"There's no need for our wedding. I'm afraid you'll be overwhelmed."

She turned to leave, but Jack grabbed her arm, fury evident in his eyes.

"Am I busy for nothing? It's all for our company, for our future! Do you want our kid to start life behind the starting line? I just got back from a business trip. Instead of caring, you throw a tantrum! When did you become like this?"

Yvette stared at him, listening to his baseless accusations, feeling ridiculous.

The man in front of her felt so strange, as if she had never known him.

Full of lies, like most men, he pushed all the blame onto her, as if his betrayal was a forced choice, as if she had forced him to sleep with other women.

With two months until the wedding, her sister had given her a month to sort things out.

In one month, she would ensure Jack disappeared completely from her life.

She headed upstairs, returning to her room and entering the bathroom to wash up.

Jack followed her up, wrapping his arms around her from behind, lowering his tone, "It's all my fault, Yvette. I've been too busy and neglected your feelings. I'll cancel all my appointments in the next few days. I'll come home right after work to be with you, alright?"

Yvette looked at the man in the mirror, his gentle words dripping with insincerity, and a mocking smile crept onto her lips, "Why bother? I..."

Before she could finish, Jack's phone rang, playing a sweet, romantic song that had just become popular.

His previous ringtone had always been mechanical system sounds. Yvette remembered when they were in love, back when the company was just starting. She had wanted to change it to a duet love song, but he had refused, saying it would affect his meetings with clients.

So, it actually wasn't about the impact. It was about whether she was worth it.

Jack glanced at his phone, hung up immediately. "Spam call."

Yvette pressed her lips into a straight line, clearly seeing the caller ID was labeled "181 Seconds". She gave a soft response and didn't mention it again.

Jack's phone rang again. He hung up, and it rang once more. Finally, he turned away to answer.

Then he said, "There are several important projects at the company right now. I'm quite busy. I hope you can understand. I'll be working late tonight, but I'll come by in the morning to take you to try on wedding gowns. Don't wait up for me. Get some rest."

Yvette didn't look at him, continuing to brush her teeth. Through the mirror, she saw him leave the bathroom and walk out the door.

After he was gone, she took out her phone and searched for the meaning of "181 Seconds".

One response stood out among the many.

"Everyone's passion burns out in three minutes, yet with you, it lasts for a lifetime. You’re my 181st second until forever."

Suppressing the stab of pain in her heart, Yvette opened a real estate app and listed their current villa for sale.

In a month, she would return to Central City. The property in Cloudhaven City held no significance for her.

She wanted nothing from here, including Jack.

Chapter 2: He Brought Her Out

Yvette listed their villa for sale at a price significantly below market value, quickly attracting numerous inquiries from potential buyers.

After replying to those messages, it was already late at night.

With no intention of sleeping, Yvette opened a trending app popular among women.

As soon as she logged in, a post caught her eye.

"My boyfriend is getting married in two months. Today I tried on his fiancée's wedding gown and had sex with him! It felt amazing and thrilling."

The comments below were filled with insults directed at the poster, with some hoping the algorithm would quickly push the post to the poor fiancée.

Yvette's hand trembled as she clicked on the poster's profile.

Scrolling down, she found the first post, no words, just a picture.

In the image, two hands were intertwined.

She immediately recognized the small mole on the man's index finger and the ring on his ring finger.

The post was dated six months ago, just a week before Jack proposed to her.

Staring blankly at her own ring, Yvette felt a wave of nausea wash over her.

In the next moment, she ripped off the ring and tossed it into the toilet, flushing it away.

There was no need to keep something that was already ruined.

The poster quickly updated her post.

This time, her words were no longer triumphant but tinged with desperation.

"Please stop the insults. I've promised to return him completely to his fiancée in a month."

The accompanying image was of a man lying on a bed, his back turned.

That back was so familiar to Yvette that she felt a wave of unease.

To return him completely to his fiancée?

Ridiculous!

In that moment, she was more amused than angered.

Jack didn't come home all night. He called her in the morning, offering no explanation, just telling her to meet him at the bridal shop.

...

At the bridal shop.

Yvette arrived a few minutes early.

Her wedding gown hung in the VIP section on the third floor, elegant and pure, as if untouched.

"Ms. Clark, Mr. Scott is on his way. Why don't we help you try on the gown so he can see how stunning you look as soon as he arrives?"

The staff was respectful, but there was a hint of sympathy in their eyes.

Yvette's expression was cold as she declined, "No, thanks."

She felt sick.

As soon as she finished speaking, a large hand suddenly wrapped around her waist, pulling her into a familiar embrace. The scent of his body wash filled her nostrils.

"Why not? Yvette, do you know how long I've waited for this day? Can you wear it for me?" Jack suddenly appeared.

Yvette turned to look at the man beside her, who looked fresh and composed, not at all like someone who had worked all night. She couldn't help but sneer inside.

He wasn't alone. A young woman followed closely behind him.

The young woman wore light blue jeans paired with a simple white shirt, her face adorned with a sweet smile, radiating youthful beauty.

Yvette glanced past Jack, her eyes landing on the girl, her gaze icy.

Is this another part of their twisted game?

Noticing her stare, Jack tightened his grip around her waist, though his expression remained casual.

"She's from the partner company, with a personality somewhat like yours from years ago. I thought you might like to meet her."

He waved his hand, and the young woman skipped over, reaching her arms toward Yvette.

"Ms. Clark, nice to meet you! I'm Marilyn Cox, as in Marilyn Monroe. It's a pleasure to meet you!"

Yvette didn't accept her hug, withdrawing her gaze and talking in a flat tone, "Marilyn in Marilyn Monroe? That's a lovely name. I suppose not many men can resist the charm of a Marilyn."

Marilyn caught the sarcasm in her tone, looking a bit hurt.

"Are you implying that I'm good at flirting with men?"

The hand around Yvette's waist tightened again, and she glanced at Jack, seeing his displeasure. He finally eased his grip, leaning down to whisper in her ear, "If you're upset, you can hit or yell at me when we get home. Marilyn's sensitive. Don't embarrass her.

"Let's try on the wedding gown now!"

The staff, snapping out of their shock, retrieved the gown and encouraged Yvette to try it on.

Yvette looked at Marilyn, who was fixated on the wedding gown in the staff's hands, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

A cold glint flashed in Yvette's eyes as she said, "Do you like it?"

Without hesitation, Marilyn replied, "I love it."

After her response, she cautiously glanced at Jack, noticing the chill in his eyes, and added timidly, "Although I love it, not every woman is as lucky as Ms. Clark to wear your dream dress and marry the one you loves."

Her gaze fell, clearly showing her disappointment and sadness.

Yvette shot a glance at the ambiguous expression on the man next to her and said softly to the staff, "I'm not feeling well today. I would prefer not to move around. Since she has a similar figure to mine, let her try it on for me."

She was terrified of catching anything from a gown that had been messed with.

The staff hesitated, glancing nervously at Jack.

Jack stared at Yvette, his expression serious.

Marilyn, undeterred, stepped forward with her signature sweet smile, "Sure! It's an honor to try on the wedding gown for Ms. Clark!"

She reached for the gown without hesitation.

The staff was left speechless.

They didn't know how to handle the situation and looked to Jack for help.

Jack's blue eyes were filled with a chilling intensity, his expression dark and uninviting, clearly warning.

Marilyn bit her lip, looking uncertain.

Yvette pushed away the hand wrapped around her waist and sat down on a nearby sofa, urging, "Go ahead."

Marilyn finally regained her smile, taking the dress from the staff and heading into the fitting room.

Jack sat down beside Yvette, frowning, ready to voice his displeasure, but Yvette looked up at him, a smile that didn't reach her eyes on her face.

"Are you not going in to help?"

Her words froze everyone's expressions.

The staff who had attended to Jack and Marilyn yesterday couldn't help but want to scream.

Thank goodness they hadn't taken the day off. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to witness this drama unfold!

Jack furrowed his brow, his lips pressed into a thin line, his expression wary. "Yvette, what are you talking about?"

"Nothing. I just thought you would be eager to help," Yvette smiled, turning to the staff and asking for a cup of coffee.

The massive curtain of the fitting room was pulled back, revealing Marilyn standing shyly in the center, beaming in the wedding gown.

This wedding dress, designed for Yvette, seemed as if it had been tailor-made specifically for her.

Yvette glanced sideways at Jack's face, her smile devoid of warmth, and asked, "Does it look good?"

Jack's face darkened as he refused to look in Marilyn's way, his voice low and aristocratic, "Yvette, what the hell are you doing?"

Yvette didn't respond, taking a sip of her coffee as she walked toward Marilyn.

As she approached, Marilyn instinctively covered her face, fearing Yvette would throw coffee in her direction.

What she expected to be scalding hot didn't come. Instead, gasps filled the air.

Marilyn lowered her hands, looking down to see the expensive wedding gown stained with brown marks.

The staff rushed to grab napkins to clean it, but nothing worked.

Yvette watched her expressionlessly, a cold smile on her lips.

"How can something that's already too dirty to clean be returned to me in perfect condition?"

Marilyn's face turned pale, standing frozen in place, unsure of what to do.

Jack frowned, his face dark as he stepped forward, grabbing Yvette's wrist and pulling her to leave.

In response, Yvette raised her hand and slapped Jack across the face.

The sound echoed in the silence.

She had almost used all her strength, her palm tingling painfully.

Jack glared at her, his eyes icy.

The staff in the shop dared not meet Jack's gaze, and even Marilyn held her breath.

Since BroadHorizon established itself in Cloudhaven City, Jack had never been publicly disrespected, let alone slapped by a woman.

Yvette met Jack's frigid glare, her heart racing. The disparity in their strength was overwhelming. If he retaliated, she wouldn't stand a chance.

Jack lowered his eyes to glance at her trembling lashes, let out a slow breath, and wrapped his arms around her waist.

"Are you calmed down now?"

Chapter 3: He Pretends to Be Affectionate

"Not really," said Yvette.

It was just a slap. How could that possibly be enough to calm her down?

Jack lifted her hand, the one she had just slapped him with, and pressed his lips to it.

"Did that hurt? When we get home, I'll get you some ice and give you a proper explanation, alright? Don't let some insignificant person come between us."

Yvette lowered her eyelids, a flicker of sadness crossing her eyes.

This must be a fundamental flaw in men. Unless caught red-handed, they would never admit their mistakes.

"Insignificant person? Are you talking about Ms. Cox?"

Yvette tilted her head to look at Marilyn, who stood pale and frozen, completely stripped of the earlier provocative attitude she had displayed upon entering the shop.

"Yes," Jack's voice was firm, without a hint of hesitation.

Marilyn's face went even paler.

As they exited the bridal shop, Yvette walked toward her car.

Jack grabbed her hand forcefully, pulling her close.

"Get in my car. I'll drive you home."

Yvette struggled but realized he had a firm grip, so she was forced to follow him to his car.

Jack opened the passenger door, revealing a pink-and-white hairpin resting on the gray-black interior seat.

He leisurely removed it, looking completely unfazed.

Yvette scoffed, "Want to check for any other personal items? If I accidentally see some intimate underwear, I might just throw up."

The calm demeanor Jack had maintained shattered at her words!

"Yvette, what are you even talking about?

"I love you, but I won't tolerate this. What happened today is the first time. I hope it's the last. BroadHorizon is at a crucial point right now. There's no way I don't have any partners of the opposite sex around me.

"You embarrassed Marilyn today. I'm willing to overlook it because she's just a lowly employee. But if you suspect someone of higher status in the future and act this way, how will BroadHorizon ever thrive?"

Yvette stared at him, her clear, beautiful eyes as cold as ice.

It dawned on her just how skilled Jack was at manipulation.

She didn't argue with him or get in his car. Instead, she turned and walked back to her own vehicle, starting the engine and driving away.

Outside the bridal shop, people came and went, but Jack didn't chase after her. He opened his own car door, preparing to get in when he spotted Marilyn walking out of the shop, her face pale.

He paused for a moment, then waved at her.

"Get in!"

...

At the same time.

Yvette stared ahead with a troubled frown at the dented rear of a luxury black car.

Just a moment ago, she'd gotten distracted for a split second, and ended up rear-ending the car in front of her.

She was at fault for the rear-ending collision and had to pay the price for her lapse in attention.

Without delay, she got out of her car to apologize to the driver who got out of the other vehicle.

"Sorry, I..."

The driver glanced at her but didn't say a word, instead respectfully opening the rear door.

As the door swung open, a tall figure stepped out, his shirt buttoned up to the collar, his chiseled face exuding an air of indifference.

The moment she saw him, Yvette recalled a fragment of memory. She recognized the man!

But before she could say anything, he had already walked away, leaning casually against the railing by the road, holding his phone to his ear. A few wisps of wind tousled his hair, revealing his well-defined forehead.

"Miss, just contact me when the car is repaired. I'll have it ready for you," the driver said, handing Yvette a business card.

She glanced over again. The man was still on the phone, his expression indicating things weren't going well. He frowned slightly, occasionally reaching out to tease a bird resting on the railing.

Ten minutes later, another MPV pulled up. The man got in quickly, while the driver continued handling the situation with Yvette. Before he got in, he glanced over, and she quickly averted her gaze, feeling guilty.

After handling everything and registering all the information, Yvette finally returned home late at night.

During that time, Jack had sent her another message, but Yvette still didn't reply.

She was exhausted. After washing up, she lay down in bed and fell into a deep sleep.

The next day, she scheduled a visit with potential buyers for the house and took the opportunity to throw away some things.

Most of them were small trinkets Jack had given her during their school days.

Once cherished, these items now seemed so cheap after she had seen through Jack's facade, much like Jack himself.

Three days later.

When Jack returned, Yvette was in the yard tending to her newly blooming roses.

He walked in and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, leaning in close.

"Babe, did you miss me?"

Yvette scoffed, "You have a beautiful young woman by your side. Why would I miss you? You probably hope I forget you so I won't interrupt your little rendezvous."

She coldly responded, using his moment of distraction to break free from his embrace.

The scent of a woman's perfume clung to him, making her stomach churn.

Jack reacted swiftly, reaching for her waist again and pulling her back into his arms.

His strong muscles felt like fire even through his shirt.

Yvette struggled, but he only held her tighter, rendering her immobile.

"You are my only love. Stop messing around, alright?"

He leaned down, whispering softly in her ear, his voice low and seductive.

Yvette's fingers dug into the thorny rose stems, drawing blood, but the pain couldn't overshadow the nausea rising in her chest.

She let her hand fall, scattering rose petals across the ground.

Jack noticed, lifting her hand to see the wound on her finger, his brow furrowing.

He bent down to kiss her bleeding fingertip.

The moment his warm lips touched her skin, her expression changed dramatically.

How could he pretend to be so affectionate in front of me after three days of entanglement with Marilyn?

His lips had probably kissed Marilyn countless times.

It was disgusting!

Yvette reacted instinctively, delivering a sharp slap to Jack's chiseled face.

Her palm felt numb.

Jack didn't move, his expression dark as he stared at her, his eyes chillingly cold.

Chapter 4: Never Abandon Your Family

Yvette fought the urge to scream at him and turned to walk inside.

For the past three days, Jack had been busy, and she hadn't been idle either.

Photos of him and Marilyn coming and going from an apartment flooded her phone.

With their wedding date approaching, he shamelessly cohabited with another woman, treating it as a final fling before stepping into the grave of marriage.

Jack followed her inside, retrieving a first aid kit from the cabinet. He pulled out iodine and cotton swabs and approached her silently.

Without a word, he grabbed her hand and began tending to her wound.

"You love your hands most. Don't hurt yourself just because you're angry with me."

Yvette smirked coldly, "Aren't you the one hurting me?"

She didn't linger on that topic. Instead, she pulled out a document and shoved it in front of Jack.

"Take a look at the terms. If there's no problem, just sign it!"

Jack took the document, his handsome brows furrowing as he read its contents.

"A property division agreement?"

Yvette nodded lightly.

Jack set the document down, letting out a soft laugh, "We're getting married. What's the point of signing this?"

He assumed she was just speaking out of anger.

After seven years together, she wouldn't leave him.

Yvette met his gaze without replying, merely echoing his words, "That's exactly why we need to sign this. After all, premarital assets belong to the individual."

She knew that only by truly leaving would Jack realize her words that day weren't just a fit of rage.

His icy gaze pierced through her, a cold smile curling his lips, but he didn't hesitate and quickly agreed.

"Fine."

Yvette handed him the pen.

Jack glanced at her, suppressing his displeasure. After signing, he handed the document back.

"Now you should be calmed down, right?"

He reached out to pull her into an embrace.

Yvette withdrew the document, avoiding his affectionate gesture.

"I'll take this to the notary. I'll contact you when it's done. I'll need your cooperation."

Jack's face darkened instantly. "You don't trust me at all?"

Yvette didn't answer, carefully placing the document in a sealed bag.

Her actions spoke volumes.

Jack's expression soured as he looked down at her serene face, the hint of coldness in his smile.

"Yvette, don't you think you've become too materialistic and vain?"

Yvette met his deep-set, blue eyes, unfazed by his accusation, and replied calmly.

"It's not the age of romantic ideals anymore. Power and money are the real sustenance of life."

A man's love could be so fickle. Only material wealth and money would never betray her.

Jack's face darkened completely.

Yvette took the document bag upstairs, pausing beside him as she passed, "I didn't prepare dinner for you. Help yourself."

Without looking back, she went upstairs.

Jack's face was a thundercloud as he slammed the door behind him.

Yvette didn't mind. After placing the document in the safe, she went to find her grandmother. She wanted to discuss going to Central City.

Her mother had passed away from cancer shortly after her divorce, leaving Yvette and her grandmother to rely on each other.

The old yard was bathed in the soft glow of the setting sun.

Her grandmother lay in a lounge chair, enjoying the beautiful sunset. "Yvette? Oh, so nice to see you! Where's Jack?"

It had always been Jack accompanying her to visit her grandmother, almost every week without fail.

Yvette didn't want to worry her. Lowering her gaze, she feigned calmness as she replied, "He's occupied."

Her grandmother fell silent for a moment, rambled on about various things, and finally insisted she wanted to see Jack. She had something to say to him.

Unable to refuse, Yvette called Jack.

He didn't answer, and she didn't press further.

After gathering her emotions, she turned back with a smile.

"Grandma, he..."

But her grandmother who had just been talking to her now lay quietly, eyes closed in the fading sunlight. Her hand fell gently to the side of the chair, her peaceful expression resembling that of someone simply asleep.

Yvette's heart raced with panic as memories of her mother's passing flooded her mind.

"Grandma?"

Her voice trembled as she grasped her hand, feeling its warmth but receiving no response.

When the ambulance arrived, a nurse informed her that it was a natural death and urged her to stay strong.

Her grandmother who had been talking to her just moments ago was gone in an instant. Yvette instinctively dialed Jack's number.

But when the call connected, it was Marilyn's voice on the other end.

"Ms. Clark, what can I do for you? Mr. Scott and I are on our way to the neighboring city."

The moment she heard that voice, Yvette's face went pale, and she abruptly hung up.

She then called her sister, Rose Clark, who lived in Central City. When the call connected, she suppressed her voice and said, "Rose, Grandma has passed away."

Rose replied at once, "I'll be there right away."

After hanging up, Yvette crouched in front of her grandmother's body, covering her face with her hands, burying her face in the increasingly stiffening form, her shoulders shaking.

Never had she felt such regret.

For a man like Jack, she had abandoned her loving family.

Chapter 5: Like Nothing Happened

It had been a week since Yvette had buried her grandmother.

The Clark family now relied entirely on Rose. As soon as the funeral ended, she rushed back to Central City.

Before leaving, she gave Yvette a few parting words.

With a pale face, Yvette assured her she would return on time and cut ties completely.

Returning from the airport to the villa, she found the purple roses wilted after a week of neglect.

The language of purple roses was about guarding love.

Jack had planted them himself when they first bought the villa.

Looking at the withered, yellowing roses, a mocking glint flashed in Yvette's eyes. She walked over, uprooted every last one, and tossed them into the trash. Then she pulled out her phone and dialed a number.

"Hello, I accept the price you mentioned last time. If possible, I would like to sign the contract and transfer ownership as soon as possible."

After confirming the time, Yvette hung up and went upstairs to pack her things.

She gathered all her valuables and returned them to her grandmother's small house, disposing of anything related to Jack as garbage.

When Jack's assistant, Sean, arrived, the trash can at the villa was already overflowing.

He looked on with confusion, glancing at the trash.

Why did those clothes look so familiar?

Seeing Yvette, he called out, "Mrs. Scott..."

Yvette raised her hand to cut him off, "Call me Ms. Clark."

"Ms. Clark, Mr. Scott is attending a banquet tonight. He asked me to pick up a suit and wanted your help coordinating the outfit," Sean said.

Yvette's expression was blank.

"Why doesn't he come get it himself?"

Sean lowered his head, feeling a bit guilty. "Mr. Scott just returned from a business trip to the neighboring city and went straight to the office."

Yvette replied, "Oh? I thought he was too busy having fun to care."

Sean couldn't bring himself to meet her gaze.

Yvette wasn't interested in making it difficult for him. She glanced at the trash can and said flatly, "Go look in there."

Following her gaze, Sean saw the property staff starting to haul away the overflowing trash cans.

"Uh?" Sean was puzzled.

Yvette shrugged indifferently. "Hurry, or someone else will pick out the good stuff."

With that, she brushed past Sean and drove away.

Sean's expression twitched. To complete Jack's task, he had no choice but to chase after the trash cans being taken away.

...

At BroadHorizon.

Sean entered Jack's office, clutching the suit he had snatched back from a scavenger.

Everything Yvette had thrown away was valuable. The scavengers were relentless.

During the scuffle, he had been elbowed a few times, and now his eye was swollen and red.

"Mr. Scott?"

He looked at Jack and Marilyn, who were practically glued together, feeling a surge of resentment.

Jack's flirtation with Marilyn was his business, but he was the one suffering for it.

Hearing Sean's voice, Jack looked up from discussing project details with Marilyn and paused.

"Did Yvette hit you?"

Marilyn's eyes widened in surprise, then filled with a hint of sympathy.

Yvette was a loose cannon. She had even thrown coffee at her in the bridal shop.

Sean sighed inwardly, wishing it were true that Yvette had hit him. Before he worked for Jack, he had been Yvette's assistant.

After Yvette's health issues six months ago, he had been reassigned to Jack.

In that time, he had watched Jack and Marilyn's relationship develop right before his eyes.

He felt guilty for betraying Yvette's trust.

"No, I accidentally bumped into something else," Sean said.

Marilyn's eyes showed a flicker of disappointment, but she wisely kept her mouth shut.

Jack nodded slightly, offering a terse, "Be careful."

Sean hesitated, debating whether to tell Jack everything he had seen.

At that moment, several clothing brand representatives entered the office, carrying custom dresses.

They lined up in front of Jack and Marilyn, showcasing the latest designs.

Marilyn's earlier disappointment transformed into excitement.

Jack's amusement grew as he raised an eyebrow at her, his deep eyes sparkling with delight.

"Pick a dress. Go with me to the party tonight."

Marilyn's eyes lit up, gazing at Jack with admiration.

"Really? Can I?"

Jack reached out, ruffling her hair.

"Of course."

With his clear approval, Marilyn sprang up to choose a dress.

Sean swallowed the words he had intended to say and quietly exited Jack's office.

That evening, Yvette's friend, who specialized in corporate mergers, invited her to an auction gala.

Coincidentally, Yvette wanted to consult her about the value of BroadHorizon shares.

She wanted to sell all her shares, and her friend's expertise would ensure she got a much better price than if she sold them herself.

...

At the gala.

Yvette headed straight for the private box on the second floor that her friend had pointed out.

Entering, she found her friend sitting alone, looking a bit glum.

"Who upset you..."

Before she could finish, the thin walls of the box allowed her to overhear a conversation from the next room.

"Jack, you really knows how to enjoy life! You're getting married next month, and you still have Ms. Cox, such a beauty, by your side. Ms. Cox is charming and willing to be kept by you. I'm not surprised. I just wonder how you balances things with your home life. You should teach us a few tricks!"

Jack didn't respond, but many sycophants surrounded him.

"Even if Jack is willing to teach you, you aren't as charismatic as him! Yvette loves Jack so much. She's terrified he'll abandon her. How could she dare confront him?"

"A man should be like Jack, having a good wife at home and keeping beautiful women outside!"

Yvette's friend, Jocelyn Foster, turned green with anger and shot up from her seat.

Yvette quickly grabbed her, causing her skirt to knock over a cup on the table, producing a sharp sound.

Jack's deep voice cut through the tension, "That's enough. Enjoy the auction lots."

Jocelyn was furious. Seeing Yvette's calm demeanor made her realize Yvette had known all along.

She glared at Yvette. "You're just going to let this slide?"

Yvette answered slowly, her voice loud enough for the next room to hear.

"In life, everyone inevitably has shit moments. If I don't act like nothing happened and deal with it quickly, are you going to announce to the world that I just got betrayed?"

The room next door fell silent.
